ABOUT AUTOMOTIVE

The rate of technological change is getting faster and faster and the automotive industry is at the forefront of these changes. Today we are facing new challenges in making vehicles sustainable: cleaner, more efficient, safer and quieter.

Our absorbent and acoustic insulation have evolved to keep pace with these changes. Lighter, more efficient and more ecological. GEOPANNEL products have reduced in weight by up to 60% in the last decade, seeing a proportionate reduction in the carbon footprint, while retaining the same acoustic properties.

TAILOR-MADE SOLUTIONS

HIGH QUALITY ADVANCED INSULATION

Of the highest quality under the IATF 16949 standard. At GEOPANNEL we work closely with our customers to develop products with an increasingly advanced performance.>

Our technical support is effective and fast. In our internal laboratory we conduct the following tests on products in development: acoustic absorption in our alpha cabin; flammability; mechanical performance; thermal conductivity. Results obtained within 48 hours from the manufacture of prototypes.

Different noises and vibrations are inevitable when driving. These come from the engine compartment, tyre noise, and aerodynamic turbulence.

All of these noises must be decreased to improve the acoustic comfort within the vehicle, and reduce exterior noise pollution.

HOW WE CAN HELP IN THE DESIGN PHASE

Through the use of our insulators it is possible to control these phenomena, making the vehicle more comfortable and vibrating less.

There are 5 principal sounds to take into account:

  1. Noise and vibrations from the running engine.
  2. Noise and vibrations from mechanical parts such as the transmission.
  3. Noise and vibrations from tyre noise, due to tyre tread being in contact with the road.
  4. Aerodynamic noise, caused by turbulence.
  5. Vibrations in the joints between different materials.

When designing a vehicle, all of these noise sources are taken into account, in order to reduce them or remove them entirely. Our customers can rely on our experience to improve the acoustic performance of specific vehicle parts in both the design phase and the optimization of the production process.

GEOPANNEL® uses modern diagnostic methods and, in the design and production of new parts, we provide to our customers all our technical department’s experience and knowledge, as well as our advanced laboratory where products are submitted to acoustic tests in order to achieve the required effectiveness.

Our acoustic laboratory includes an Alpha Chamber under the Renault D49 1977 regulation and Kundt impedance tube.

Furthermore, we have a Lambda-meter to determine thermal resistance of materials; a Climatic Chamber to test materials’ behaviour to prolonged exposure to humidity, cold and heat; several Smoke Chambers with burners under ISO 3795 (FMVSS-302) to determine the flammability of materials; and a laboratory where the chemical composition and mechanical properties of our finished products are tested under each OEM’s guidelines.

AUTOMOTIVE SPECIFICATIONS

Our processes allow the manufacture of felts made of cotton, polyester, jute, polypropylene and other
natural fibers, ranging from 15 to 250 Kg/m3 and from 4 to 120 mm.
